What is leadership? Leadership is not an enrollment for fame or wealth, it is a service-oriented adventure. Leadership platform is not meant for jokers, but for the intellectuals, if you are not willing to take the risk, you are simply not ready to lead.
Paul, an Apostle of our Lord Jesus Christ says to Timothy in first Timothy 4:2 "Let no man despise thy youth, but be thou an example of believers in word, in conversation, in charity, in Spirit, in faith and in purity". True leadership is an exemplary gesture towards others, we are born for this. I see intellectual youth taking over the leadership platform in no more time, this is the Revolution that I preach, come-on! let do this.
You don't have to wait to be an adult to be an active member of your community, start from where you are! Your opinions matter and it should be heard, but really , please think deeply before you air your opinion for constructive criticism. You really don't have to become the president of the Federal republic of Nigeria before you start assuming the role of leadership, it's starts from where you are at the moment. The journey of a thousand mile begins with just a step.
This is one of the problem we have in leadership today, people don't always want to start small, they want their first attempt of leadership to begin from the top, Hello! failure and disgrace is inevitable.
Start leading from your school, your work place, your home, your community, your state and you are on your way to the national platform. don't be afraid to make mistakes while you start small, even Rome was not not built in a day and a day old baby wouldn't walk at birth. learn from your mistakes keep improving, you were born for this. Don't go and make a public disgrace of yourself, making errors of incompetence up there!
YOUR ROLES IN NATION BUILDING
1. Know your rights: The first thing that is expected of a Nigerian youth is to know his right, don't tell me you know, please go back to your Citizenship notes.
2. Learn about local issues: The youth that will make impacts in leadership should have the knowledge of whatever is happening around him. Who is the Minister of Education, you don't know...Hello, go and do your home work well abeg.
3. Be out spoken: Timidity is not part of leadership,. Let your views be heard, make your opinion count, but please don't speak when you simply have nothing to contribute. Great leaders are great thinkers, therefore, you are expected to think well before you speak. Your words are either life or death, there is no sitting on the fence.
4. Be part of campaign team: Stand and speak for the truth, ensure that your campaign is steady and consistent, only then will you be impactful.
5. Be creative and Innovative: leadership is all about servant-hood, so utilize your creative ideas and innovations to serve the people of your community, Leadership is service in disguise.
6. Network with other intelligent youth who have like-passion-volunteer to clear your area, construct bridges where need be, solve local problems and you are on the way to the top!
7. Stand-out: be a mentor unto others, let the leadership qualities in you emerge. sometimes, you dont have to contest for positions, people's recommendation will you out. "Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works".
...If you care about something, why not stand up for it?
